Bone conduction through history

Specialists devised a novel method for making the travel of sound waves significantly easier, namely, through bones. Isn’t it insane?

When sound waves cause the bones in the head to vibrate, the electrical impulses are transported directly to the cochlea, which then sends them to the brain via auditory nerves.

The same impulses that reach the brain also make their way to the ear. Hearing-impaired people have found the technology to be beneficial.

In the medical field, the technique has even been utilised to treat hearing loss.

What‘s "Bone Conduction"?

Bone Conduction

Sound waves are conveyed to the inner ear by air and bone conduction, and the inner and outer lymph fluids of the inner ear vibrate as a result.

The sensory process is completed by the auger, after which the auditory nerve generates nerve impulses that are conveyed to the auditory center and brain.

The sound is ultimately “heard” after a thorough examination of the cortex.

We may have some perceptual understanding of air conduction, but some aspects of bone conduction are incomprehensible.

For example, cover your ears with your hands and talk to yourself; regardless of how quiet your voice is, we can all hear what you say thanks to bone conduction.

Who Needs Bone Conduction Headphones?

The benefits of bone conduction headphones, as someone who has minimal eardrum damage, come from their revolutionary design and the sort of sound conduction that transports sound to the eardrums, allowing you to hear sounds more clearly than ever before.

So, what if you have an exceptional hearing? Bone conduction headphones are ideal for those who like physical sports such as running or other hobbies that require you to hear your music clearly while remaining aware of your surroundings.

Because of the way sound travels, your ears are exposed, allowing you to hear everything around you while also being able to listen to music, podcasts, and audiobooks without missing a beat.

The sound quality isn’t quite as good as earbuds or over-the-ear headphones, but if you need a pair of headphones that let you listen to music while also hearing what’s going on around you, such as at an office, bone conduction earphones are a great option.

I love the AfterShokz Aeropex Bone Conduction Headphones for listening to audiobooks or even connecting to my computer to use for conference calls at work. I also loved using them, the included earplugs, and a white-noise app to drown out my snoring friend in a hotel room recently!

Pros:

  • Loud enough to hear anywhere
  • Include earplugs
  • Sound is great for spoken word content and decent for music if you’re not picky (I’d say a little better than phone speaker quality)
  • The microphone on the device works great for phone calls
  • Multifunction button can be held to activate Siri on iPhone (push for play/pause/answer/hangup, double press to skip track)
  • Volume buttons
  • Connect multiple devices at once – I didn’t think you could, but after a year I just found the trick below
  •  I think the battery life is good. I never really kept track but I guess the advertised 6 hours may be right. They warn you when there are about 10-20 mins left.
  • Good range in my opinion (20-30 feet) but not quite as good as another pair I have

Cons: (although I don’t consider them cons)

  • When volume is loud they may slightly tickle, but it’s not noticeable when you’re in a situation where you need them loud
  • Slightly awkward with glasses, but I have no problem as long as I put them on before my sunglasses

Amazon Review “If you are like me and work in an industrial line of work and you are not allowed earbuds these are great. I didn’t wanna pay a ton of money and these were a bit cheaper than the aftershocks.

So first of you will not get an earbud experience. The only way they come close is when you put safety earplugs in. Now the sound quality is pretty good although the base is almost not there unless you plug your ears. But the mids and highs sound crisp.

The battery life is where this shines. They say somewhere around 7 hours or so and I get about 9. They take some getting used to but for the most part, are very comfortable and they are pretty light.

They don’t move around or feel like they will fall off. Now they say they are water-resistant so I wouldn’t go dunking your head in water or even if you sweat a lot I would take them off or just find something that’s waterproof.

I will say I’m very happy with my purchase and my dad even ordered a pair and I work with him. All in all, if you don’t wanna pay 80 bucks and feel like 40 bucks are too cheap and risky these in my opinion will set you right.

Pros:

  • Cost – it is *much* less than the competitors.
  • Reliable – it connects to my iPhone consistently and never disconnects.
  • Microphone – I use it for phone calls, sometimes. I like this better than AirPods.

Cons:

  • Sound quality – I still gave it 5 stars but it is not intended to give sound as if you’re in the concert hall. This is a bone-conduction device so it has a limited range. I expect that so it meets my expectations and that is why I gave it 5 stars on sound quality.

Oddity:

  • When bass sounds are at a higher level, they will vibrate your skin. It’s understandable why. It’s just weird.

Amazon Review: “I am a bit of an earbud/earphone/headphone snob, I like my earbuds very particular. These are amazingly comfortable, last throughout the day.

They don’t drain my phone battery as fast. I like that they have 3 buttons, volume +/- and start/stop. I must admit, I was very skeptical before purchasing, I didn’t know if they would be loud enough to cut through the noise of my day-to-day life. But, they do!

They’re extremely loud, and if you want them louder, you can put a pair of earplugs in. The entire reason for me to try these open-ear headphones is because I have been using the Samsung Galaxy buds+ for a while, and while I do love them and still want to use them, my ears have become more sensitive.

They are building fluid faster inside the canal and I got worried, it may have led to something more in the future. So, if you’re looking for something safer but still loud, give these a try! You won’t regret it.”

Pros:

  • Ergonomic, stylish design
  • Voice assistant
  • IP56 sweatproof
  • Convenient magnetic charging

Cons:

  • Time-consuming pairing
