BLU G91 Smartphone Review – When it comes to budget smartphones, Blu Smartphones is always trying to raise the bar against the competition on what a budget phone should be. A few years ago my iPhone X got badly damaged and I had to send it in for repairs.
The repair place I took it to didn’t have a loaner phone for me, so I scrambled to buy something cheap on Amazon that would make do for the time being and I bought the BLU Advance 5.0. The smartphone was under $60 so I was prepared in advance that I might be getting what I paid for.
But by the end of using the inexpensive unlocked phone for weeks, and then switching back to a repaired iPhone X, I was impressed by that cheap phone that could. So when BLU introduced the BLU G91 for $150 bucks, I figured I would be preemptive and purchase this smartphone in case my iPhone 12 Pro Max goes down in the near future.
Of course, I would have to test the smartphone to see if it was worth the investment for emergencies, and this is my review of the BLU G91 after a month of testing this little wonder of a smartphone.

My BLU G91 Review
I like this phone. Since I was a fan of the BLU Advance 5.0, which seems like a distant memory now, but BLU is still providing good value for your purchasing power with the BLU G91.
The BLU G91 is an unlocked phone which I love when I travel because I can just throw a sim card into the smartphone and add some minutes to the phone and can make calls locally without paying long-distance charges from my current wireless provider at home. From playing with all the features of The G91 for the past month, this is a great budget alternative that its design cues from the big players in the smartphone market today.
+ Lots of memory and storage
+ Separate slots for 2 SIM cards and 1 SD card all simultaneously
+ Android 10
+ Long battery life
+ No rapid charger (but charges completely overnight, and lasts 2 days)
I picked the green version, and it’s nice. The front has a large screen with tiny bezels and has a hole-punch camera in the top left corner. There is a tiny chin on the bottom, but otherwise, it’s almost all screen. The back is a slightly grippy plastic and holds well in the hand. Also, Blu includes a nice smokey clear case that still shows off the phone as well.
This is one area where I had a major concern. It states HD+, and I wasn’t thinking about this when I ordered. When I think HD, I think 1,080p, but the new standard is HD = 720p. I’ve been using the phone for the better part of a week, and the screen resolution is hardly noticeable. None of the content I’ve watched looks jaggy. It all looks great. The IPS panel on this phone is sharp and has great colors. I’m sure if I was doing more gaming it would be an issue.
This is another area where I was surprised. This uses a MediaTek Helio A25 processor. Usually, people want to see a Snapdragon processor, but MediaTek has made large strides in the quality of its processors. This is an octa-core processor and handles multitasking fairly well. Every once in a while I’ll have a minor lag when jumping between tasks and games, but overall it is very snappy.
The speaker and call quality are good as well. I mentioned above it comes with a case, however, it also comes with earbuds. They are a similar design to apple’s AirPods, but they are not quite to the same standard in sound quality but are really good for an included accessory. Because they are not enclosed you won’t get super bass, but the mids and highs are really nice.
It comes with a 5000 mAh battery. I’ve used it for 3 days without charging with daily media consumption. It shines in this department. Some of the factors that help here are the screen resolution and the power-sipping nature of the MediaTek processor.
Well, it can’t do everything amazingly at this price, can it? Eh, while Blu is by no means bad at implementing cameras, this is no Samsung or Pixel. Pics are good in sunlight and decent in low-light environments. Even night mode is decent.
Again, for the price, my expectations are not high and this does exceed them, but my daily driver is a Pixel 4a 5G and there’s no comparison. I’ve recently used the OnePlus Nord N10 5G and I will say the camera is better implemented here on the Blu G91.
The BLU G91 is one of the best budget phones you will find for 150 dollars this year. I would recommend this smartphone for those looking for the features of a mid-range phone at a budget price.
Especially if you don’t want to be locked to a particular cell phone provider. It almost feels like a steal at its current price point. If you want to grab yours today click here.
