Squat Rack

Most of your workout exercises will revolve around a squat rack.

Why should you have a squat rack for your home gym? Because this home gym accessory is ideal for squats, shrugs, chin-ups/pull-ups, incline/decline bench presses, and other strength training exercises.

If you are thinking of using Amazon.com to purchase your home gym equipment for under 500 dollars, I would suggest for you is the Fitness Reality 810XLT Super Max Power Cage with Optional Lat Pull-down Attachment and Adjustable Leg Hold-down.

The Fitness Reality 810XLT Power Cage (pictured above) is a great option for many looking for a well built squat rack at a price everyone can afford.

Each pair of bars can handle a weight capacity of 800 lbs and are adjustable to 19 height levels to give you a total range of work out positions.

At the back of the Power cage, two rear stability bars are added to provide solid-state performance while performing strength-training exercises.

It will be a little shakey on the ground but for the price (around $250.00), it’s hard to beat for building a home gym under 500 dollars.

Another great squat rack option available for those that may not have the footprint for a full-power cage is the Sunny Health & Fitness Power Zone Squat Stand Rack Power Cage.

Constructed with premium quality steel construction, this power rack supports up to an incredible 805 lb max weight capacity barbell.

The pull-up bar is adjustable and reversible with 8 different positions and angled for both wide and narrow grip pull-ups.

You will always have a spotter in the Power Zone with safety latches for ease of mind and safety assurance when squatting with heavier weights.

With safety clips, organize weights on racks while adding extra stability when utilizing the machine.

Just like the Fitness Reality Power Cage, you may need to bolt the rack to the ground to prevent some wobbles, but all in all, it’s a well-built piece of fitness gear for you home gym under 500 dollars.

Barbell

According to Wikipedia, “The purpose of a barbell is to be used in weight training, bodybuilding, weightlifting, and powerlifting consisting of a long bar, usually with weights attached at each end.”

Now with barbells, you can spend a lot of money on them, but to build your home gym under 500 dollars, I would suggest the CAP barbell. (Pictured Above.)

The CAP Beast Olympic Bar by CAP Barbell measures 2185 mm in length and is designed to take on super heavy workloads and is a top choice for professional weightlifters.

I have the Cap-7foot Olympic Bar for my home gym for quite a few months now, and for the price of close to 100 dollars, it’s a basic barbell that works.

Keep in mind that most Olympic Bars are out of stock on Amazon, so you might want to check out Walmart for your home gym needs to build the best home gym under 500.

Workout Bench

Well, there are several options available on Amazon for bench options, but if you are looking at building a home gym under 500 dollars, then you should look at purchasing a flat bench.

According to Wikipedia, “The bench press is an upper-body weight training exercise in which the trainee presses a weight upwards while lying on a weight training bench.

The exercise uses the pectoralis major, the anterior deltoids, and the triceps, among other stabilizing muscles. A barbell is generally used to hold the weight, but a pair of dumbbells can also be used.”

Now, with Amazon inventory levels lately in regards to flat benches, you may have to keep your fingers crossed on availability.

If you are looking for a flat bench without all the bells and whistles, I would suggest looking at the Amazon Basics Bench. (Pictured above).

It works! It’s not the greatest bench out there, but for the price, it can’t be beaten.

If you are thinking about an incline bench option for mid to high chest exercises, Cap Barbell Deluxe Utility Weight Bench. (Pictured Above.)

Its price is just under 100 dollars, but it has all of the necessary features and functions found on traditional utility benches and can be used in combination with other training aids to offer even more exercising options.

Weight plates

Now that you have your squat rack, barbell, and bench, it’s time to look at weight platesNow, with the way the pandemic has thrown a curveball for all of us, stock on Amazon for weight plates is limited.

Here are some weight plate suggestions I will give to you if they are in stock or not.

My first suggestion is the CAP Barbell 2-Inch Olympic Grip Plate

Made of solid cast iron with a machined hole and a durable, black baked enamel finish, these weights have a 2-inch center hole to fit on Olympic bars.

Each CAP Barbell Olympic Grip Weight fits on all 2-inch Olympic style weightlifting bars, along with many other machines. (Pictured Above.)

The weights are available and sold separately in a 2.5 lb, 5 lb, 10 lb, 25 lb, 35 lb, or 45 lb size.

Another great bumper plate suggestion that is extremely popular in the fitness community is the Hulk Fit Bumper Plates

Why I like Bumper plates, is that they are made of thick, dense rubber to allow a loaded bar to be safely dropped without risk of damaging your lifting platform, the plates themselves, or the floor.

High-Density rubber plates with solid stainless steel insert can withstand repeated drops. They will not only protect any type of floors but also protect your bars.

Color-coded based for easy identification. Weight is labeled in both pounds and kilograms. Good for strength training, weightlifting, crossfire, etc.

The Hulk Fit Bumper Plates Pictured above is a great deal. But they tend to be out of stock, so add these to your Amazon wishlist and wait while you are building your home gym under 500 dollars.

Clout Fitness Barbell Clamps Collars for 2 Inch Olympic Size Barbell

Now that you have your weight plates, you need to get some collars.

You don’t need to spend a ton of money on a set of collars, but you need some to hold the weights in place while you are lifting.

My suggestion for weight collars is a pair of Clout Fitness. (Pictured Above).

The Clout Fitness Barbell Clamps Collars single-lever design offers with a locking latch offers a stronghold and eliminates unnecessary moving parts, improving the longevity of collars.

Why I like Clout Fitness, is they offer a lifetime warranty. If they break, they just give you a new one.

Extra Options For Home Gym

Adjustable Dumbbells

Here are a few things that I wanted to share with you to improve your home gym experience, that may be out of the ordinary for you, but will help your home gym immensely.

First, I like adjustable dumbbells (BowFlex Pictured Above) and they can be found on Amazon in different prices. Click here to read my review on adjustable dumbells.

The reason why I like adjustable dumbells it replaces up to 34 Dumbbells.

With just the turn of a dial, change your resistance from 10 lb. up to 90 lb. of weight.

Now these are tough to find right now on amazon because of inverntory levels, but the prices range from 150 – 500.

Sandbags

Sandbags are another piece of very effective equipment in strengthening conditioning for your home gym.

Here is an example below of a sandbag workout.

There are several different options available for sandbags to add to your home gym under 500 dollars. I like the garage fit sandbags as they are your best bet on Amazon for the price and quality.

Garage Fit’s weighted sandbags feature an outer shell and filler bags designed using extra-strong, waterproof nylon cordura, and reinforced nylon stitching. This allows them to be pressed or pushed in any direction without ripping.

Unlike most military sandbags for exercise that leak sand, Garage Fit’s filler bags feature double-sealed inner liners with strong hook-n-loop fasteners for unmatched containment.

The heavy zipper on the outer shell ensures all the contents remain in place.

Side note: The bag DOES NOT INCLUDE SAND.

Kettlebells

Kettlebells are known to improve overall strength, core power, balance, flexibility, and coordination while also melting fat and sculpting healthy and lean muscles.

When it comes to adding kettlebells to your home gym under 500 dollars, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a great kettlebell.

I would suggest the AmazonBasics Cast Iron Kettlebell Weight, because they are inexpensive and made with high-quality solid cast-iron construction.

With its round ball-like profile and integrated loop handle, the kettlebell works as weight resistance and as a counter balance for a variety of upper- and lower-body exercises.

Resistance Bands

Resistance bands a fantastic piece of fitness equipment for those that don’t have a lot of space for his/her own home gym, but still want a great full-body workout.

The great thing about resistance bands is that they can add musclebuilding power to most types of workouts. They’re also wonderful for restoring muscles after an injury. Resistance bands come in numerous strengths, making them highly useful by most people.

For being able to work out anywhere you are and being able to do a variety of exercises without requiring a lot of equipment and being able to use them no matter what your fitness level, resistance bands are an exceptional piece of equipment to use.

I personally use the WODFitters Assisted Pull-Up Resistance Bands for Cross Training and Power-Lifting. (Pictured Above). These resistance bands add that extra bit of resistance to your workout that not only forces your body to perform better but ultimately provides lasting results.

These bands are perfect for men and women learning pull-ups, chin-ups, ring dips, and muscle-ups. They are ideal to develop muscle memory and get you to do those kipping pull-ups and strict pull-ups in no time. They can also be used for a challenging power-lifting session.

These bands are made of quality material. Continuous layers of tough rubber add a level of resilience and sturdiness that makes these bands outlast any rival. They won’t break on excess stress and won’t be easily deformed.

Conclusion

So there you have it, all the tools you need to build a home gym under 500 dollars.

While these are the basics, it’s the perfect start you need to get you up and running for improving your health at home.

Now, keep in mind that because of the recent pandemic lockdowns, stock levels on Amazon vary from day-to-day.

Just add these items to your Wishlist from this post, and when they are in stock, starting building the home gym of your dreams.
