Must-Have Travel Essentials For Women – Packing is always a challenge that many of us have before leaving for our trips.
The problem with the packing in my household is that I tend to pack my carryon luggage within minutes. While my wife struggles to fit everything she needs into a check-in suitcase.
To be fair, in my household I don’t have many clothing options in my wardrobe because I lack fashion sense compared to my wife.
Many of my friends are in the airline industry as flight crew. So my focus was to ask my female flight crew friends, which are their go-to essentials when they travel.
Here is a list of the must-have travel essentials for women that my flight crew friends never travel without.

Travel Essentials For Women
When I asked my flight crew friends about their must-have travel essentials, I made sure they fit any traveler’s style, while keeping a traveler organized when packing.
Isn’t that something all of us want before we hit the road on our journeys.
Without further ado, Here is the list of must-have essentials for women 2020.
Hardshell Carry-On Luggage
One of the most important things that were mentioned in terms of travel must-haves was an extremely durable wheeled carryon.
With the amount of walking from terminal to terminal that my friends that fly for a living, they never want something that will cause strain throughout their working day.
Both of these great carry-on pieces come in a variety of colors to match any traveler’s personal preferences. The great thing about these two suitcases is that they are affordable, and well made that will last you a few years.
Side Note: Even though my flight crew friends don’t check in their luggage before departure, they still all have GPS tracking devices in them just in case they get separated from their luggage.
The Tile Pro is a great GPS device that I use because I can track luggage via my smartphone in case I go one way and my bag goes another.
Leather Messenger Tote Bag
This is a must-have travel essential for women according to my wife, and sure never will travel without one.
My wife picked up the Sechunk Cotton Canvas Leather Messenger Bag (pictured above) as a day pack for travel.
She can fit a kindle, smartphone and miscellaneous items like tissues, hand sanitizer, wallet, sunglasses and so much more.
She finds this particular bag very durable and well made, and can go with any outfit.
If you are traveling to parts of the world where tourist theft is high, you can go with an Anti-Theft Messenger bag instead.
The Travelon Classic Collection (pictured above) carries and keep more items organized than everyday bags. From multiple storage pockets to an interior wall wallet so you don’t have to carry the extra weight of a wallet.
With a 5-Point Anti-Theft security system that helps prevent the 5 most common pedestrian types of theft, it is one of the most loved bags.
- Lockdown Straps help prevent grab-and-go thieves from dashing off with your bag. Strap lock secures bag to a stationary object or chair.
- Locking Compartments helps prevent pickpockets from getting into your bag. Locking zippered pulls to secure your bag contents.
- Slash-resistant Body helps prevent slash-and-grab theft in busy areas with a slash-resistant mesh barrier in all 4 sides and bag bottom panel.
- Slash-resistant Straps helps prevent slash-and-run theft with a stainless-steel wire inside the strap.
- RFID Blocking Pockets helps prevent against electronic identity theft with RFID blocking card slots and passport pockets.
Do you know much about packing cubes? If you don’t use them now for travel, after reading this you will understand why you will need them for all of your travel essentials.
I like using packing cubes to seperate my tops, bottoms, delicates, toiletries and so much more.
Here’s a suggestion on how to utilize all the different size packing cubes to help keep your travel items organized:
- Extra Small Cube – This is ideal for those TSA approved toiletries that can easily be taken out of a carryon to make airport security a breeze.
- Small Cube – Perfect for underwear and socks. Or, a great organizer for makeup or electronics.
- Medium Cube – Great for packing any casual clothing like shirts, tank tops, blouses, dresses, and yoga pants.
- Large Cube – Just the right size for organizing all of your jeans, sweaters, and more formal wear.
Slip-on shoes are something that many of my female flight crew friends swore by. Of the many travel essentials for women on this list, you need to pack a pair of comfortable slip-on shoes.
When it comes to slip-on shoes, you can spend a lot or spend a little on them, just make sure they are comfortable to wear in any situation. Plus, find ones with great arch support and color that can go with anything.
Along with a great pair of slip-on shoes, make sure to pack a least one extra pair of shoes for a night out.
A small travel wallet is one of those travel accessories for women and men that should be taken with you on your journey.
The great thing about travel wallets is it helps you minimalize the amount of plastic in your wallet. Leave all your reward cards at home, and just carry the essentials like a debit card, credit card, and cash.
Side note: if you are looking for a travel wallet for your next trip, make sure it’s one the has RFID blocking abilities to it. Thieves are everywhere, and this is just one way to protect yourself.
Clear Toiletry Bag
Another travel essentials for women that all my flight crew friends pack with them when they are heading off to work the friendly skies.
Why a clear toiletry bag? A clear toiletry bag is perfect for when you need to pull out you TSA approved travel beauty essentials out of your carry-on to go through security.
Side note: When you are on holiday, try to ask your room attendants at your hotel for extra shampoo, conditioner, and body wash so you can use them on a later trip.
Personal Alarm-Safey Keychain
This traveling accessory is something that many of my friends carry with them when they are traveling for work.
Sometimes they are overnighting in a city they are not used to, and just having some sense of security with them makes a long day manageable.
A safety alarm keychain pictured above is a favorite among my friends because all they have to do is simply press a button and the loud noise will deter any potential attacker.
This is an area where I have little to no expertise in, and I am glad I received some help from my friends.
Most of the time when I travel, a reliable hoodie is my go-to when it comes to keeping me warm. But, I had no clue about the functionality of a shawl for women.
From what I gathered about a comfortable shawl for travel is that it can be used as a blanket, a coverup, and something to keep you warm during a long flight.
If you want to go with something soft in regards to finding the right shawl for you, I have been told that a pashmina shawl is a way to go for any travel packing list.
If you are worried about your hair always covering your eyes, and carrying bobby pins is a pain, then scrunchies are the way to go.
The reason why these travel essentials for women are so popular is that scrunchies don’t give you headaches.
They also don’t pull out your hair as hair ties can, and are less likely to cause damage to your hair.
Considering I shave my head, I don’t understand why someone would use something so painful like hair ties, where they can wear something comfortable and versatile like a scrunchie.
Definitely another of the travel essentials for women that need to be in your luggage.
Portable Smartphone Battery Charger
The following items on the list of travel essentials for women comprise of items that I pack on every trip I take.
What I appreciate about a Portable Smartphone Battery Charger is that it provides me reassurance that I will never run low on power to my smartphone.
I remember when I was playing Angry Birds on a long flight from Vancouver To NYC and forgot to keep my smartphone charged during the flight.
Once I arrived in NYC and trying to get an Uber, I noticed I drained my smartphone battery. Damn you angry birds!!!
The power bank pictured above is a perfect travel accessory that is small enough to carry in any type of pocket.
Plus, it will reassure you that when you need to take pictures of a famous attraction, you will have enough power to do that.
Noise Cancelling Headphones
Sure some people love the song “Baby Shark“, but when you hear it on repeat from a child sitting next to you for 5 hours straight, you start going a little crazy.
If you want an escape from it all while you are on a flight, I suggest investing in a great pair of Noise Cancelling Headphones to block out everything around you.
I recommend the BOSE Quiet Comfort Noise Cancelling Headphones for travel because they are the best I have ever heard.
Sure they may cost more than others, but they are simply the best out there.
Truly one of the travel essentials for women and men that should be in every carry-on for travel.
If you are on a long flight, you don’t want to rest your head on a cheap 5 dollar pillow on board a plane for sleep right?
If you are like me and can’t sleep at all on a plane, it could be because you are not using the right travel pillow.
I suggest the TRTL travel pillow for your sleeping needs on board an airplane because it helps support your head in an uncomfortable airline seat.
Plus, it’s not bulky like the other travel pillows on the market today that look like you are suffering from a neck injury.
Sleep is one of those travel necessities that everyone needs to have a great trip.
Don’t you hate when you are at an airport that to buy a bottle of water you have to take out a loan to do so? That’s why I started to bring with me a collapsible water bottle wherever I go.
It can be folded in any carry-on luggage and holds enough water to get you through a short-haul flight.
Plus, you can carry it along with you while you travel from attraction to attraction, and just fill it up on the go.
Perfect for those who are worried about the environment and wasting plastic to quench a thirst.
This is one of the essential travel items that I never leave home without.
Body Wipes are travel essentials for women and men who want to stay refreshed in between showers.
Body Wipes are great for when you are on a long 15-hour flight and need to freshen up before you land at your final destination.
You can find body wipes that are unscented or scented to keep you smelling great any time you need it.
I know that when I am traveling on a long flight, with all the dry recycled air coming through the airplane vents and the lack of sleep I get, red irritated eyes something I deal with all the time.
That why packing eye drops for wherever you go will help keep your eyes moist and relive the dreaded red eyes.
It’s another of the travel beauty essentials that everyone can use.
Side Note: I know I have probably missed a lot of must-have travel essentials for women on this list, but these are necessities that my friends and wife swear by when packing.
Optional Travel Essentials For Women
Below are some great optional travel essentials for women that my flight crew friends take with them while working.
Portable Towel – Sure you will find towels at your hotel, but what if you want to head to the beach midway through the day for a quick rest and recharge. I like the Rainleaf Microfiber Towel because it’s easy to carry and space-saving.
Protein Bars – I know that when those hunger pangs hit during flight or between meals, a protein bar is more satisfying than the airline peanuts and cookies you may get on board.
Hand Sanitizer – This is something I swear by especially during a long flight.
From what I have heard from my flight crew friends is that the airline seat and what surrounds it isn’t the cleanest thing on the planet.
So if you are hungry and want a snack while flying, keeping your hands clean with hand sanitizer is the best thing you can do for yourself. Also, wipe down your tray table immediately when you board a plane.
Travel Detergent Soap – Don’t want to deal with expensive hotel laundry service? With travel detergent soap you can quickly, safely, and easily wash clothes right from the convenience of your hotel sink (or bathtub).
Sewing Kit – Some hotels don’t offer sewing kits anymore, so packing a travel size sewing kit can be a lifesaver when you need to deal with rips in clothing or button that have come off.
Travel Laundry Bag – Laundry Bags are perfect for separating dirty clothes from clean clothes in any type of suitcase.
