7 Best Smart Fitness Mirrors for Home Workouts

7 Best Smart Fitness Mirrors for Home Workouts

Now that we are all back from self-isolation due to the pandemic, our schedules are busier than ever. The never-ending to-do lists are getting longer and longer, and that means we are not able to take care of our health properly.

Finding time to go to the gym or studio is tough to do because the commute there and back from the gym eats up time we don’t have. Plus you have to factor in the workout, socializing, changing, showering, etc, and you have lost half your day.

That’s why working out at home is becoming more efficient and more convenient than ever before. But, what if you decide to workout at home and feel you’re going to miss the heart-pounding instructor lead training that you would get at a fitness studio? That’s where fitness mirrors come into play. The latest smart fitness gadget allows you to bring the $30 workout class into your living room. These high-tech, sleek, and smart fitness systems make weightlifting, HIIT, yoga, and other workout classes easier and closer than ever before.

Fitness mirrors are the next logical next step for those looking for versatile fitness equipment in an at-home workout space that treadmillscycling bikesrowers and other smart equipment can’t. When you think about it, with a home gym cardio machine like a treadmill or stationary bike, it is either you run or ride.

But with the top fitness mirrors, you can do strength training, yoga, pilates class, or get a quick HIIT session in after work. Plus, unlike other home gym equipment, it doesn’t take up a lot of space in your home. Most smart fitness mirrors essentially hang on the wall and take up the same square footage as a large painting. Then you just need a spot on the floor to spread a yoga mat out in front of the fitness mirror and you are ready to workout.

Pros:

    • Both models have mirrored 43-inch 4K UHD displays
    • Resistance training arms on Studio Lift stow away when not in use
    • Doubles as an elegant home mirror

Cons:

    • The Stand is sold separately
    • Quite expensive
    • Some competitors are more compact

FORME Life’s Studio mirror home gyms don’t come cheap. But the base model comes with extras like a high-quality non-slip exercise mat, heart rate monitor, cleaning kit, and more, which makes it solid overall value. When it comes to the premium Studio Lift, it comes with even more fitness accessories like FORME handles, ankle straps, a short bar, rope handle, and a storage cabinet. When it comes to overall customer reviews, it is a clear winner on this list. The FORME Life mirror is one of the best smart fitness mirrors for your money overall, considering everything it has to offer.

FORME Life offers two smart fitness mirror products. The entry-level Studio is a well-rounded pick for numerous workouts, including dance, meditation, bodyweight, strength training, yoga, and more. Looking at the premium Studio Lift fitness mirror, you have a fitness machine that caters to your strength training needs and has independent motors for each arm for balanced resistance. Both versions have a mirrored 43-inch 4K UHD display and 12-megapixel cameras.

You’ll also find voice control and a touchscreen display for added convenience. You can install the mirror on the wall or mount it to the floor. This mirror home gym is reflective so that you can easily follow along with instructors while keeping tabs on your form.

If you’re used to one-on-one training or group fitness classes, you might be hesitant to rely on a mirror for accurate feedback. As with other smart fitness mirrors on this list, FORME Life has the essential technology to make personalized suggestions and adjustments as needed.

Key features:

    • Display – 43-inch UHD 4K display with touchscreen (both models)
    • Membership – FORME Life membership
    • Available models – Studio and Studio LIFT
    • Includes weights or accessories – Both models come with a non-slip yoga mat, heart rate monitor, and microfiber towel. LIFT also includes FORME handles, short bar, rope handle, and ankle straps.

2. Echelon Reflect Smart Fitness Mirror

Amazon Customer Reviews

  • Available in two sizes
  • Requires zero-footprint space
  • Bluetooth connectivity

Price:

$1,499.99

Pros:

    • Access live and on-demand fitness classes
    • Shows real-time data such as calories burned, goals, and heart rate
    • Follow along with instructors to keep form and technique in check

 Cons:

    • Doesn’t come with a stand
    • Some complaints of connectivity issues
    • The 40-inch version doesn’t have a touchscreen display

Echelon Reflect Mirrors come in two sizes: 40 and 50 inches. If you are worried about the upfront cost of these smart fitness mirrors, the 40-inch Echelon Reflect Mirror will suit you just fine. Both mirrors offer live streaming and on-demand fitness classes at your leisure.

The built-in Bluetooth technology enables you to connect to the app using your smart device and Bluetooth earphones. Once you’ve picked your class, you just follow along with the instructors just as you would in a fitness studio.

With the reflection mirror, you can see yourself on the screen throughout the workout to assure that your form and technique are correct. Real-time data such as calories burned, goals and heart rate keeps you in the loop as you exercise.

If you’re are wondering which of the Echelon Reflect mirrors you should pick, there are some striking differences between the models. The more affordable 40-inch smart fitness mirror features a 1080p HD display and weighs 26 pounds. It’s also more compact than the 50-inch touchscreen. The 50-inch Reflect offers a large 32-inch HD touchscreen display, and heavier and more expensive than the 40-in model.

Echelon’s Reflect mirrors require zero-footprint space. So if you can securely attach the fitness mirror to the wall you are ready to start working out. Also, unlike most cardio machines, including home treadmills, these mirrors can easily blend into the background when you’re done working out.

Key features:

    • Display – 40-inch has a 1080p HD display and the 50-inch has a 32-inch HD touchscreen display
    • Membership – Live and on-demand classes. Echelon membership is compatible with all of the company’s connected fitness devices
    • Available models – 40- and 50-inch mirrors
    • Includes weights or accessories – No

3. Tonal Smart Home Gym

$2,995.00

Shop now at tonal.com

Pros:

    • Users can join virtual workout groups
    • Options for over 170 different moves
    • Works the upper and lower body

Cons:

    • Some competitors have a larger display
    • Currently doesn’t offer live classes
    • Expensive smart accessories bundle

The Tonal fitness mirror offers 200 pounds of resistance — 100 pounds per arm — which can help you quickly expand your home workout routine in one setup.

Rather than use traditional metal weights and standard dumbbells, which require extra storage space that can impede movements with their natural inertia, the Tonal home gym combines magnets and electricity for maximum effectiveness. With adjustable arms support for various upper and lower body movements, it offers a true full-body workout at home.

Tonal learns as you workout and makes modifications as needed to meet your current fitness level, just like you would get from an in-person coach or personal trainer. This smart fitness mirror uses a full-body strength assessment to determine how much weight you can lift then sets the weights accordingly. The weight automatically increases as you grow stronger. A series of 17 sensors provide real-time feedback on your technique and form and even informs you how to maximize your range of motion.

When it comes to a library of workouts, the Tonal has you covered. Plus, you can also customize and save your workout programs using the accompanying app. If following a program isn’t your thing, you can simply use the Free Lift function for an independent session.

Even if you’re not using a specific program, Tonal’s artificial intelligence system suggests specific weights and keeps tabs on your workout progress.

The Tonal home gym helps the user home workout from being monotonous with its vibrant 24-inch interactive display. While the screen may be smaller than other smart fitness mirrors on this list, it’s the perfect smart fitness mirror for those living in an apartment or who have a cramped home gym.

The Tonal only comes in on model compared to the other smart fitness mirrors mentioned above on this list. Also, you’ll need to pay extra for the smart accessories bundle, which includes a workout mat, roller, bench, ropes, smart bar, and smart handles.

Key features:

    • Display – 24-inch interactive display
    • Membership – Tonal membership with access to thousands of workouts (Live classes currently not available)
    • Available models – Tonal
    • Includes weights or accessories – Comes with 200 pounds of digital weights but accessories bundle is purchased separately

The Mirror isn’t compatible with certain devices, like the Fitbit or Garmin watches, but you can use it with the Apple WatchPolar monitorsPeloton monitorsGarmin chest strap, and more. As long as you’re still a member, you’ll have access to unlimited live and on-demand classes for up to six household members.

Most smart fitness mirrors have integrated technology to monitor your movements and provide feedback without being too obtrusive. The Mirror uses advanced camera technology to help keep you on track as you exercise. You’ll receive real-time feedback depending on your fitness goals and preferences.

The Mirror doesn’t offer a storage area to keep a well-organized fitness area, so you will probably need to find a way to store your workout gear and equipment rather than leave it out for display. The Mirror has a slim and modern design and doubles as a full-length mirror when it’s not in use, so you don’t have to worry about storing it while you have visitors in your home.

As for wall space for this piece of fitness equipment, you only need two feet of available wall space to set up and use Mirror. The Mirror also comes with an adaptable wall mount and a slim carbon steel stand.

This interactive home gym stands six feet tall, 1’4″ deep and weighs 100 pounds. However, Tempo Studio doubles as a handy storage solution for those extra weights and accessories you’re probably using during workouts.

The Vue fitness mirror offers a built-in 22″ touchscreen that lets you stream classes on top of the crystal clear view of your reflection while working out in the iFit library (yes, the same one NordicTrack uses).

Is the Mirror Fitness worth It?

Smart fitness mirrors can be a practical investment for your home gym. These compact fitness machines commonly aren’t cheap, but they’re packed with features and technology to take your workouts to the next level.

If you’re limited on space or have an extremely busy schedule, a smart fitness mirror is a helpful solution.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), adults need to incorporate aerobic activity and muscle strengthening exercises into their exercise routines.

The CDC recommends at least 150 minutes a week of moderate to intense aerobic activity and at least two days of muscle-strengthening exercises for maximum health benefits.

An exercise mirror can encourage you to keep moving and hit your fitness goals in the comfort of your own home.

What Is the Best Workout Mirror?

Smart fitness mirrors might seem fairly interchangeable at first glance, but several distinguishing characteristics can make one mirror stand out above the rest.

Unsure which smart fitness mirror is right for you? Here’s a quick breakdown of some of the pros and cons to consider with each smart fitness mirror on this list:

Tempo – Comes with all necessary weights and accessories for workouts, including barbells, weights, and dumbbells. You can access live and on-demand classes, track workouts and customize workouts. However, you don’t do partner workouts or one-on-one personal training. Also, the required eight feet of workout space could be a dealbreaker for cramped living areas.

Tonal – Beef up your home fitness routine with the included cable machine, which provides up to 200 pounds of digital weights. The smart fitness mirror also learns as you move and automatically adjusts to your body and fitness level. Live classes aren’t available, but you’ll have access to hundreds of on-demand classes.

Mirror – This smart home gym from lululemon promotes interactive workout experiences by giving you a chance to join a Competitive Class, connect with friends and compete with yourself to improve your fitness. You can join live weekly classes or access thousands of classes with a Mirror membership. The Mirror has a small footprint and a low profile for seamless integration with your home decor.

FORME Life – Both the Studio and Studio LIFT have 43-inch UHD 4K touchscreen displays and telescopic cameras for live one-on-one personal training. With Studio LIFT, you can bring your workouts to the next level with its folding arm attachment with a variable resistance of up to 150 pounds. This is a great Tonal gym alternative if you’re needing live training sessions.

Echelon Reflect – With either the 40-inch or 50-inch version, the Echelon Reflect is slightly cheaper than some of its competitors. Both versions feature a sweatproof, WiFi-enabled touchscreen display, and access to a wide range of live and on-demand classes. If you are looking for a smart fitness mirror with less of a footprint presence, you’ll enjoy the sleek design of the Echelon Reflect.

NordicTrack Vault – An iFit membership gives you access to fitness professionals who will guide you through Pilates, strength training, HIIT workouts, lifting, and other exercises, all on the 32-inch smart HD display. Depending on your fitness goals you can opt for the Standalone or Complete products. Complete comes with an exercise mat, yoga blocks, loop bands, resistance bands, kettlebells, and dumbbells. Both Vault home gyms include a one-year iFit membership.

Pro-Form VUE – ProForm Vue is just one of the many options available to consumers right now, but what is helping this product to stand apart from others in the same crowd is the fact that it includes weights for strength training while remaining very competitively priced. You can get similar products from competitors for the same price but without any strength training equipment included, and we all know how much it costs to acquire a nice set of weights. So if you’re looking to strength train, and you’re not an advanced lifter, Vue comes equipped with a nice starter set of weights and a sleek, discreet way to store them.

Mirror vs. Tonal: Which is Better?

Since these two smart fitness mirrors are the most popular on the market today, let’s take a glance at which one is better.

The biggest difference between the Mirror and Tonal smart home gyms is the screen size.

If you’re looking for a Tonal gym alternative with a larger screen, the Mirror has the advantage. Its 40-inch 1080 pixel display is quite a bit bigger than Tonal’s 24-inch 1080 pixel display. Keep in mind that the Tonal has a touchscreen display compared to the Mirror which does not.

Both workout mirrors have a 5MP camera. The Mirror’s screen is 70 percent reflective so that you can see yourself working out alongside your virtual trainer. Tonal’s screen is not a mirror.

But the advantage of the Tonal is it comes with a digital weight system with 200 pounds of resistance and adjustable arms for customized workouts. The Mirror doesn’t come with extra equipment.

The Tonal requires to be mounted on a wall, while you can mount the Mirror on the wall or floor.

How To Use The Camera On A Smart Fitness Mirror?

Some of the smart fitness mirrors on this list include cameras that only record your movements at certain times, such as during classes. While other smart fitness mirrors on this list offer a different type of technology to monitor your form during workouts. With many of us worried about our home privacy, most top manufacturers of smart fitness equipment make it easy to disable the camera if you want.

The Mirror offers a “Community Camera” that enables members to view their classmates and receive supervision from instructors. This camera only turns on during class and automatically shuts off when class is over. The camera can be activated directly on the workout screen.

If you want more privacy, and this is something I do with my laptop and smartphone is cover the camera lens with a piece of tape, or buy a sliding lens cover that I can slide the cover when I need to use the camera, and then slide the cover when the camera isn’t needed anymore.

The Tempo smart fitness gym only “recognizes” an unrecognizable skeleton and never records the inside of your home which is something I love. Its 3D sensor is only activated during classes. To protect your privacy, all of this data is processed on-device rather than in a cloud.

The Tonal comes with a built-in camera, although the company says it’s currently switched off. The camera may be switched on in the future if the company offers a relevant feature, such as one-on-one personal training.

What Are the Perks of Owning a Fitness Mirror?

There are some big perks to owning a smart fitness mirror workout system.

For those with not a lot of space for a home gym, they take up way less space than a treadmill or even cycling bike does and can be placed anywhere in your home.

They offer personalized instruction from professional instructors — so if working out intimidates you in an actual live in-person fitness studio, or if you are worried about proper form while working out at home, a fitness mirror might be perfect.

Plus, smart fitness mirrors blend in well in your home when you’re not using them, and with many of us with less square footage in our homes, you don’t need a separate room to stash your gym equipment.
