Design

Bose NC700 Vs Sony WH1000XM4: Who Will Win?
Sony WH-1000XM4

Bose NC700 Vs Sony WH1000XM4 – Both the Sony WH-1000XM4 and the Bose NC700 Noise-Canceling Headphones are very sleek looking, but the foldable design of the Sony WH-1000XM4 offers a portable option for those on the go.

If you look at the Bose NC700 you will notice that they are slimmer of an option compared to the larger look of the XM4

But, if you compare the looks of the two noise-canceling headsets, you will notice that the XM4 has thicker breathable padding around the ears which provides a little more comfort compared to the NC700.

Don’t get me wrong on the ear padding of the Bose NC700, it is extremely well-padded and comfortable, and many reviewers on amazon praise the comfortability of the Bose NC700 headphones.

When it comes down to the design and comfort, either pair of these noise-canceling headphones over hours of listening throughout the day will do just fine for everyone.

Plus, both headphones come with a protective carrying case.

Noise Cancellation

Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700

Bose NC700 Vs Sony WH1000XM4 – I have been a loyal Bose customer for years, and it came to quite a shock to me that the Sony XM4s have a slight advantage in active noise-canceling over the Bose 700 NoiseCancelling Headphones.

Since these headsets are the best in the market in terms of producing amazing noise-canceling technology, the old saying “you get what you pay for” is justified by these fantastic headphones.

When compared in noisy environments, both noise-canceling headphones manage themselves quite well in eliminating outside distractions.

In terms of conversation mode for phone calls, with their noise-canceling abilities and microphones, any caller on the other end of the call, will hear you loud and crystal clear even if you are in the middle of a sold-out NFL game.

But, I did notice with the Bose 700 that calls I made with my iPhone11 was somewhat cleaner compared to the Sony XM4s which created a slight static during calls I made.

With 11 ANC(Active noise cancellation) levels, the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700s produce effective noise-canceling but doesn’t match what Sony XM4 can produce.

The Bose 700’s ANC settings let you effectively deaden the sound around you, but the Sony WH-1000XM4s can adjust the ANC levels depending on your environment. The Sony WH-1000XM4s can even detect the atmospheric pressure while you are on the plane!

Say goodbye to listening to screaming babies on a 15 hours flight! And enjoy surround sound for when you’re on the plane.

Where I noticed a huge difference between the two noise-canceling headsets is in the microphone features department.

The Bose NC 700’s microphone is outfitted with an adaptive mic system made up of eight microphones that work together to significantly improve phone calls even when in a crowded place. On the other hand, XM4s only have five.

Sound Quality

Sony WH-1000XM4

Bose NC700 Vs Sony WH1000XM4 – Sound quality is a tough call between the two, as it comes down to personal preference.

The reason I have been so loyal to the Bose brand is that no matter what product they made, the sound signature remained the same across the board. They are a premium brand that never disappoints.

The Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 delivers the company’s traditional signature of warm bottom ends and slightly scooped mids.

These wireless ANC headphones offer active EQ and top-notch bass response that’s not over the top and its clear instrument separation remains hard to beat.

But, if you are looking for a completely customizable EQ with thumping bass, the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones are where it is at!

The Sony WH-1000XM4 has an app that lets you adjust the EQ settings to deliver the sound profile that you prefer.

The Bose NC700 doesn’t offer this type of app yet, so EQ customization is a no-go. Let’s hope that Bose does a firmware upgrade soon to compete with the EQ features of the Sony product.

Takeaway – The Sony noise-canceling headphones offer EQ customization; the Bose NC 700 delivers a balanced sound profile. Both help with controlling ambient noise.

Set up and Controls

Bose NC700 Vs Sony WH1000XM4 – The Sony Headphones and The Bose NC700, both feature touch, one with sony headphones connect app and the other bose music app, and voice controls, as well as built-in Alexa and Google Voice Assistant.

When it comes to pairing the headphones to your devices, both noise-canceling headphones are outfitted with Bluetooth 5.0 for extremely quick and easy pairing.

With both the Sony XM4 and Bose noise-canceling headphones 700 being compatible with smart assistants like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri, the headset has a slight edge in accessibility with the virtual assistants it The WH-1000XM4.

The WH-1000XM4 offers a “Speak to Chat” feature that lets the user activate your smart assistant hands-free without even pushing a button.

Additional Features

Bose NC700 Vs Sony WH1000XM4 – If you have never used Multi-Point Pairing Connection on headphones before, it’s a feature that I can’t live without anymore.

What is a multi-point pairing connection? Let’s just say that you are on the train heading to work and watching a video on your iPad, and you receive a phone call on your smartphone, you can switch between your tablet and smartphone just by a press of a button.

Both the Sony XM4 and Bose NC 700 support a multi-point pairing connection so you don’t have to worry about it at all in choosing between the two.

In terms of battery capability and runtime, the Bose 700 is behind even when compared to the Sony XM4s.

At full charge, the Bose can be used for up to 20 hours and a quick 15-minute charge can give you up to 3.5 hours more.

Meanwhile, the Sony WH-1000XM4 has a runtime of up to 30 hours with ANC on and 38 hours if it’s off. A quick 10-minute top-off will yield an impressive 5 hours extra battery life, perfect for when you’re in a rush.

Take away – The Sony XM4 and Bose NC 700 allow multi-point pairing connection; the XM4s feature adjustable EQ settings and longer battery life. The Sony WH-1000XM4 boasts up to 30 hours of battery life.

Which One Is the Winner?

Bose NC700 Vs Sony WH1000XM4 – I hate to say it, but Bose has new competition and it’s the Sony WH-1000XM4

With just a few tweaks here and there, Sony has created a pair of Active noise-canceling headphones that is tough to beat.

With customizable EQ that lets you enjoy crisp audio from all types of genres, and that comfortable folding design has elevated this noise-canceling headphone to the top of the market.

The only drawback to these headphones is the call quality, which the Bose NC700 is ahead of the pack with.

But, if you are looking for a highly rated noise-cancellation headphone, the Bose NC700 is the right choice for you.

The sleek designed headphones manage ambient sounds across the entire frequency spectrum while delivering amazing sound and overall functionality.
