Apple Watch Series 6 – Over the years, the Apple Watch has increased in popularity and is the foremost gadget in the world of wearable tech. And with the latest release of the Apple Watch Series 6, it’s no longer just a watch, it’s an experience on your wrist.
If you have been on the fence over the past few years of smartwatch technology, Apple’s newest smartwatch model, the Apple Watch Series 6, offers a range of improvements from its predecessors that might have you ready to join the smartwatch revolution.
But how did this series of improvements affect the device? And is it worth buying or upgrading for those who already own a previous-generation Apple watch?
To answer this, we will break down some of the pros and cons of the Apple Watch Series 6, so you can easily decide if this is right for you!
Pros and Cons of Apple Watch Series 6: Everything You Should Know
It is a Fashion Statement
The Apple Watch, like all other successful Apple products, is about simplicity, form, function, and looking good to the eye.
Apple Watch Series 6 is a fashion accessory that comes in a variety of styles, including the newest black and white model, which has been well received since the launch.
The Apple Watch 6 is a tastefully designed premium-grade smartwatch. It comes in two sizes, 40mm and 44mm options, with a wide variety of color options.
Apple Watch Series 6 has a larger display than its predecessors. The screen is also designed to be slimmer and easier to see under bright sunlight using adaptive brightness technology.
Apple Watch Series 6 features an always-on display, so you do not need to tap the screen or turn your wrist to view data on the watch screen. In this mode, the time is always visible, along with your watch face or the most recent active app.
To preserve battery life, the display dims when your wrist is down, or by a quick gesture of covering the display with your hand. A wrist raise or tap on the screen brings everything back to full brightness and makes the watch screen active so you can interact with your watch.

Supports Multiple Watch Faces
The New Apple Watch Series 6 supports multiple watch faces. You can even customize some of the watch faces based on your mood and preferences.
You can also switch the watch screen by simply swiping up and down from the main face.
Just go to the Face Gallery in the Apple Watch app to see all of the available watch faces, find one that looks interesting, customize it, choose complications, then add the face to your collection—all from the gallery.
Interchangeable Watch Band
Apple Watch Series 6 comes with an Interchangeable watch band that can make your smartwatch stand out from the rest. You can make it look like a different accessory each day you put it on, simply by changing the band.
When you’re working out, you can opt for a sweat-friendly sports band.
Then when you head out to an important meeting or a big job interview, you can strap on a high-end metal band to change the watch’s look and feel. And you don’t have to buy the Apple-branded bands — there are lots of third-party options available at affordable prices.

Health Tracking Features
Heart Rate Monitoring
You can check your heart rate any time using the Heart Rate app. Open the app, then wait for Apple Watch to measure your heart rate. You can also view your resting, walking, breath, workout, and recovery rates throughout the day.
You can also turn on heart rate notifications, so you know if your heart rate remains above or below a chosen beats per minute (BPM), or occasionally check for an irregular heart rhythm.
Take ECG in 30 seconds
An electrocardiogram (also called an ECG or EKG) is a test that records the timing and strength of the electrical signals that make the heartbeat. By looking at an ECG, a doctor can gain insights into your heart rhythm and look for irregularities.
The ECG app can record your heartbeat and rhythm using the electrical heart sensor on Apple Watch Series 4, Series 5, or Series 6* and then check the recording for atrial fibrillation (AFib), a form of irregular rhythm.
The ECG app records an electrocardiogram which represents the electrical pulses that make your heartbeat. The ECG app checks these pulses to get your heart rate and see if the upper and lower chambers of your heart are in rhythm. If they’re out of rhythm, that could be AFib.
Blood Oxygen Level Monitoring
Your blood oxygen level represents the percentage of oxygen your red blood cells carry from your lungs to the rest of your body. Knowing how well your blood performs this vital task can help you understand your overall wellness.
The majority of people have a blood oxygen level of 95 – 100%. However, some people live a normal life with blood oxygen levels below 95%. Slightly lower values while sleeping are expected, and some users might experience values below 95%.
The Blood Oxygen app can allow you to measure the oxygen level of your blood on-demand directly from your wrist, providing you with insights into your overall wellness.
Measurements taken with the Blood Oxygen app are not intended for medical use and are only designed for general fitness and wellness purposes.
Sleep is essential for all of us, and Apple Watch Series 6 has a unique feature that helps us with our sleeping patterns. It tracks your sleep in detail with the help of its many advanced sensors and also measures blood oxygen levels at night to detect any signs of sleep apnea.
Plus, with the help of the Snore Control app, it can measure snoring intensity using a microphone and artificial intelligence, so you can find out if your snoring is a health concern. Or to prove to someone that you don’t snore, and it was them all along.
Stress Level Monitoring
Apple Watch stress level monitoring is not new, but it still deserves to be mentioned. This feature tracks stress levels by measuring heart rate variability (HRV).
Stress Monitor is running your stress calculations all day and shows your stress on your Stress Heatmap.
First, the app calculates a wide range of heart metrics, such as ECG, HRV, heart rate. These metrics are calculated based on the data that your Apple Watch tracks in the background or when you breathe or use ECG App.
Then, using an advanced algorithm, our app calculates how your body resists stress.
As well, you have access to your personal stress highlights. Find out how your well-being has changed over the week and what day last week was the most stressful or the most productive for you.
What’s more, you’ll get deep insights into which activities positively or negatively affect your stress. Stress Monitor correlates your stress with your daily activities, either yoga classes, or deadlines at work.
With such deep insights into your stress and health, you’ll take your health and well-being to the next level!
Track Menstrual Cycle
The health monitoring feature of the Apple Watch Series 6 also includes menstrual cycle tracking. It can predict and monitor cycles based on the data like the date of the cycle, ovulation day, and bodily changes.
The app can also monitor cycles using various methods, such as synchronizing with other apps that monitor menstrual cycles, such as Clue or Glow (period tracker).
While wearable fall detection tech is not innovative, bringing it to a new audience via the Apple Watch was. Apple brought fall detection technology first in Series 4, and it has continued it through each following offering.
The Apple Watch Series 6 follows suit and has fall detection technology.
This means that the watch has special sensors that can detect when there has been a sudden shift or fall. The watch then asks the user if they need to call emergency services. If the user does not respond in one minute, the device will call emergency services on behalf of the user.
Noise Level Calculation and Alert
With the Noise app, you can enable Noise notifications to alert you when your Apple Watch identifies sound levels in your environment that could affect your hearing.
Apple Watch will periodically measure the sound levels throughout the day while you’re wearing your watch. This uses the microphone but does not record or save any sounds.
If the average sound level over three minutes reaches or exceeds a chosen decibel threshold, your Apple Watch can notify you.

Sport Tracking Features
One of the best things about an Apple Watch is the all-around fitness tracker capabilities for individual workouts, physical activity throughout the day, including the steps taken, calories burned, elevation climbed, and more!
Apple Watch Series 6 comes loaded with multiple apps to track your indoor and outdoor activities.
Below are some Sport Tracking Apps featured in the Apple Watch Series 6 that will help you with your fitness quest.
- Sport app: for tracking individual workouts, such as running and cycling.
- Activity app: to count your every move from walking to taking the stairs
- Workout app: you can create different workout routines with specific sets of exercises that provide visual feedback about metrics like calories burned or time elapsed.
With built-in GPS, Apple Watch Series 6 records precise distance, pace, and speed for outdoor workouts such as walking, running or cycling, without needing to take an iPhone.
Users can begin an outdoor workout immediately as Apple Watch Series 6 uses Wi-Fi, GPS, and locally stored satellite data to quickly identify their location. On completion of an outdoor workout, view a route map that shows variations in speed in the Activity app on iPhone.
Whether running, going for a swim, or walking between meetings, the Activity app on Apple Watch Series 6 counts all daily activity towards the Stand, Move and Exercise rings.
Apple Maps — or simply Maps — is one of the built-in Apple Watch apps. As you might expect, it allows you to get directions from your current location to a destination of your choosing, with the app calculating the best route.
You should see — and feel — the turn-by-turn navigation instructions to guide you along the way, and you can always search for nearby businesses, such as a restaurant or a gas station, simply by asking Siri for it.
The Apple Watch Series 6 comes with a built-in GPS and Map that takes you wherever you want to go.
So, whether it’s your local park or an outdoor adventure, the GPS on your watch will be able to accurately map where you are and provide turn-by-turn directions for easy navigation!
You can even share your map with your loved ones so they can follow along.
The elevation tracking in the Apple Watch Series 6 is an excellent feature for hikers or anyone who loves to explore.
With this feature, Apple Watch Series 6 owners will have their elevation changes, even the smallest ones above ground level, tracked by the smartwatch. All of this, up and down, up to the measurement of 1 foot.
The barometer sensor in Apple Watch will help track your elevation as you hike. This will let you know when it is time to take a break.
Pool and open water swimming
The Apple Watch 6 can be used for both open and closed-water swimming and is water-resistant up to 50 meters. Having electronics freaks me out, but the Apple Watch works perfectly for those who use swimming for fitness training.
The Apple Watch displays your lap splits, strokes per minute, distance covered, as well as calories burned during swimming workouts.
When it comes to a smartwatch, the main purpose is to make our lives easier and more convenient without even using a smartphone.
Here are some key features the Apple Watch Series 6 has that make it the best personal assistant out there.
Ability to make phone calls
Did you know that the Apple Watch Series 3,4, 6, and SE can make and receive phone calls? Leave your smartphone in your pocket or at home, and stay connected with phone calls, text messages, and more.
Plus, you can also send or answer text messages on your Apple Watch with the built-in microphone and speaker. Just keep in mind that you must have your iPhone nearby unless you are using a smartwatch with LTE support.
Smartphone notifications suck! Especially when your phone is in your front pocket, and you are crammed in a Japanese bullet train for two hours, and you have no chance in hell of reaching your phone to answer important texts or emails.
With Apple Watch on your wrist, you will never miss a notification, even if you are stuck in a Japanese bullet train for two hours. When you get a notification, the watch buzzes and displays the notification on your wrist.
So, you don’t need to grab your phone every time for your notification while you are driving, golfing, running, and being stuck in a Japanese Bullet Train for hours.
Unlock Phone or Your Mac
With Apple Watch Series 6, you can unlock your iPhone with your Apple watch. This feature is useful when you have your face mask on and your smartphone doesn’t recommend your face ID. Also, you can also unlock your Mac with the apple watch, which saves you time entering a password each time to log in.
Apple TV and iPhone Camera Remote
These features are great for those who are part of the Apple ecosystem.
If you have Apple TV, you can use your Apple Watch Series 6 as a remote to control your Apple TV without the need for a separate remote.
As for your iPhone camera, the Apple Watch comes with a Remote Camera feature that lets you control your iPhone camera. This is a great feature for times when you are vlogging by yourself and need to operate the camera remotely, or for times when you want a group photo and don’t want to leave anyone out of the picture.
Did you know that you can play music or control music without using your phone with an Apple Watch? This is a great feature for when you’re out or in the gym! Just connect to the Bluetooth headphones or ear pods to listen to music.
Also, you can also connect your Apple watch to a Bluetooth speaker so that you can stream music via Apple Watch. The Apple watch supports streaming apps such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer!

Apple Pay is being accepted everywhere around the world. All you have to do is set up your banking information into Apple Pay, and you never have to reach for your wallet again. The Apple Watch allows you to pay using Apple Pay, via field communication (NFC) to let you make quick, reliable payments without your wallet.
With Walkie-Talkie, the Apple Watch lets you use your watch to chat with friends and family. It enables you to stay in touch with your loved ones, even if you’re not in the same room. This feature is available on Series 1 and higher models.
Find My Phone
How can you find your iPhone using the find my phone feature if you don’t know where your phone is? Sure if you have an Apple Mac, you can use the find my phone feature to locate your smartphone, but what if you are away from your Apple Mac?
With the Apple Watch Series 6, just a tap on your Apple Watch, your iPhone will start to ring, and flashlights so that you can find it.
Siri: Your Smart Voice Assistant
How many people use Siri? I know for myself, I love using Siri because it’s an excellent voice assistant that makes it easy to do things on your Apple devices. For example, Siri can start a timer, send snooze notifications for your morning alarm, and even show you the weather report.
Siri can also help you with reminders to pick up milk, set appointments into your calendar, or even get notified of how many calories you burned today.
When you break it down, the Apple Watch is designed to be an extension of your iPhone and lets you interact with your smartphone phone in so many ways, which helps you get tasks done faster.
But with the many pros of the Apple Watch Series 6, there are some disadvantages to watch out for.
Cons of Apple Watch Series 6
It is Pricey
Apple products are expensive, but I believe you get what you pay for. I have had my MacBook Pro for the last six years, and it hasn’t slowed down, compared to the XP notebooks that I have wasted money on for years.
So when it comes to the Apple Watch, it’s pricier than other smartwatch brands, but you get what you pay for.
The Apple Watch pricing starts anywhere around $399 for the most basic model.
It Works With iPhones Only
Apple Watch can only be used with iPhones and not Android devices, which is not the case for other smartwatches on the market today. This is a disadvantage for people who want to use an Apple watch but don’t have an iPhone.
While the Apple Watch battery life lasts 18 hours, which is great for those who can charge the device after a great day of use, it doesn’t last long enough for a full day like flying around the world with time to charge.
As a result, you should find a convenient time to recharge your Apple watch daily, preferably when you are not so active.
No Blood Pressure Monitoring
The latest Apple Watch does not come with a blood pressure monitoring feature compared to its rivals, such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch and Active 2 that come with a wrist-based blood pressure monitoring feature.
This might not be a big thing for some, but if you are looking for a blood pressure monitoring smartwatch, you may have to look for smartwatch brands compatible with iPhones to have this type of feature.
Now that we have covered all the important pros and cons of the Apple Watch Series 6, the pros outweigh the cons, and the Apple watch series 6 is worth buying.
This is an amazing electronic gadget for those who want to improve their quality of life or do something positive for themselves in an easy way.
